   इस्लामी अर्थशास्त्र की वकालत करने वाले मूल रूप में दो दावे करते हैं कि वर्तमान पूँजीवादी व्यवस्था असफल हो गई है और इस्लाम एक विकल्प प्रस्तुत करता है। बाद की बात का मूल्यांकन करने के लिए कुरान ने इस्लामी अर्थशास्त्र की वास्तविक कार्य पद्धति को समझने की चेष्टा की है और उसके तीन दावों पर विशेष ध्यान दिया है कि इसने धन पर ब्याज समाप्त कर दिया है , आर्थिक समानता को प्राप्त कर लिया है तथा उच्चस्तरीय व्यावसायिक नैतिकता को स्थापित किया है। उन्होंने पाया है कि इन तीनों क्षेत्रों में यह असफल रहा है।
